Possessive Nouns

May 1, 2012 in Uncategorized

As part of our Charlotte’s Web unit, we did a mini lesson and reflected on the importance of writing possessive nouns correctly. After our lesson, students had to opportunity to work in pairs and transform sentences into possessive nouns. I gave students a sentence strip with a phrase. For example, “the bark of the dog.” Students then had to change the phrase to reflect a plural possessive noun, as well as a singular possessive noun. Students changed the phrase to “the dog’s bark,” and “the dogs’ bark.” Students made posters and shared them with their peers. These words also double as our spelling words for the week. Each pair made a small card displaying our spelling word. I put these cards on our Charlotte’s Web focus wall!
