The Letter “A” {Oriental Trading Goodies}

August 13, 2015 in Uncategorized
I have been trying to work with my little guy (16 months old) on some reading activities. It’s never too early to introduce books!
I was fortunate enough to receive some items from Oriental Trading in return for my honest feedback. I used this opportunity to gain insight on what would work well for my toddler; therefore, I could also see how these items would be beneficial in a preschool or PreK classroom.
I saw these great Alphabet Readers and Jumbo Dice on Oriental Trading’s website and thought these would be a great start to teaching my little about letters!

I started by reading the “Aa” book to him daily for one week. I would point to the pictures, say the letter and picture aloud and continue with repetition. It only took one day for him to know the pictures and letter sounds. Now, when I say the name of an item, he can point to the picture in the book.
I decided to take it one step further and use the Jumbo Di to create a little more practice.
I printed out letters and pictures and put them in the slots in the di. I ask him to show me the “apple.” He turned the di, and what do you know, he pointed to the apple!

Practice, repetition, and some creative tools from Oriental Trading made teaching my little guy fun and easy.
Not only is this a good tool for toddlers, but this activity and book set can be transferred to primary classroom.
The Alphabet Readers come in a cute set of the alphabet. Great for centers, intervention, or early finisher activities.

Next week I’ll be posting about some other great Oriental Trading products!
Be sure to check back! 😀
