Figurative Language

Getting third graders to understand Figurative Language can be a little bit tricky. I was able to help students understand figurative language through use of poetry and by connecting to their background knowledge on sayings or terms they might already know. It was also pretty helpful to incorporate some games and cooperative learning opportunities for students to expand their experiences with figurative language.
One fun activity students participated in was making a class book of idioms. Students had fun exploring our idiom dictionary while trying to understand meaning about commonly used idioms. Here are some pages from our class idiom book!
